- Located in central Iowa, 15 miles west of Ames and 35 miles north of Des Moines, Boone has a population base of 13,000. The community?s diverse economic base includes major manufacturers and employers such as Union Pacific Railroad, Fareway Stores Inc., Communications Data Services, Inc., Quinn Machine & Foundry, Mid-States Steel, Patterson Dental and Proliant, Inc.
A large aquatic center, numerous parks, Boone Speedway and nearby Ledges State Park provide outstanding outdoor fun. Ride the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad or trolleys, visit the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Birthplace, ski or tube at Seven Oaks Recreation Area, or just sit back and take in the friendly atmosphere of this vibrant Midwest community.
